PATTERN DESIGN

With Adorable Knits, I have been designing contemporary knitwear patterns for young and old since 2020. A lot of my patterns are beginner friendly, and thus suitable for the less experienced knitter. But I also have patterns for those of you who are looking for a bit of a challenge.

I'm a big fan of textures. I'm always looking for & testing new stitches & new techniques, which I then try to use in my patterns.

Adorable Knits is based in Antwerp, Belgium. All my patterns are available in Dutch and English. I'm currently in the process of translating my patterns to German & Danish. Some are available in French & Polish. I'm always there for you if you need some help or have any questions about my patterns. Just send me a little mail.

I have so many things on my to do list, and I feel that that list just keeps on growing every day 🫣

I don’t seem to find the time to make new content either (I just have too many other things to do first), and IG is not happy about this. So the content I do share, doesn’t get seen. Which is frustrating when you’ve recently released 2 patterns (the #adorable_heartwarmervest and the #adorable_josweater ) and nobody saw it 🫠

Oh well…ups & downs I guess 😇

I finished my 2nd sample! 🤗 It’s already on the blocking mats, but I wanted to show you the unblocked version already.

I’m currently working on the charts, and I will be for the next couple of days 🫠 Every single size has different details and it’s own charts to make it as easy as possible for you to follow 🫣 Hooray for cable patterns, right 😂

Am I changing some tiny details while working on the charts? Yes I am 🤣 I’m gonna be SO happy when this design is finally ready to be testknitted 😮‍💨

Sooooo…I need your help again 😁

It became very clear to me that I’m in need of more cardigans…like asap 😂 I love wearing them, but somehow, I only designed 1 cardigan (and I really need to give that pattern (the #adorable_renéecardigan ) the love and attention it deserves and give it an update. I might have ordered new yarn to do exactly that 🥰).

But…I need more than 1 cardigan. So, I was thinking…maybe I could do a Gloria Cardigan first (instead of the v-neck sweater). I know lots of people are waiting for the v-neck. But a Gloria Cardigan would be so cool too, right?

Another thought: my Ginger KAL just ended. And I launched this one to push me into designing the Ginger Vest…which worked brilliantly to be honest! I just finished the 2nd sample today & will start working on the pattern tomorrow. So maybe I should host a Gloria KAL to push me into making the new Gloria design? 🤭 Again, share your thoughts pretty please!

I’m back home after an amazing weekend at @hhcologne ♥️ I’m exhausted but feel so inspired! My heart is full after meeting so many wonderful people! It’s always such a pleasure to meet up with fellow creative souls! & Every single one of these beautiful souls inspire me! I hope we meet again at a future event!

I brought lots of knits with me, so I could decide then & there what I wanted to wear 🤣

My beautiful #adorable_twistedtwinesshawl accompanied me in the evenings (happy that @woollentwine got to see it finished as it’s made with her gorgeous yarn). And my 2 new vests: the #adorable_gloriavest (v-neck) - pattern already available - and the #adorable_gingervest (pattern in progress, testknit coming soon).

I also decided I need to design more cardigans asap, because I loved wearing my #adorable_renéecardigan (not in the photos).

Anyways: I’m gonna enjoy some knitting time this evening, while watching tv with my family. And tomorrow, it’s back to work! 🔥

“The one for the husband”

The pattern of the #adorable_josweater is NOW available in English and in Dutch in my webshop & on Ravelry!

This is my very first sweater design for men, and I’ve been eager to add a stylish, classic men’s sweater to my collection for quite some time. You could think of it as the “masculine” counterpart to the Grace Sweater.

Since this is my debut men’s design, I couldn’t resist naming it after my soulmate. My husband Jo, my greatest supporter, has always been my rock. Without him, Adorable Knits wouldn’t exist. This sweater is my heartfelt way of saying “thank you” in the ‘knitting language’ :)

The Jo Sweater is a simple, classic raglan sweater with tapered sleeves. The sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round, from top to bottom. The neck, hem and cuffs are worked in a 1x1 rib stitch. The rest of the sweater is worked in stockinette stitch. German Short Rows are used to shape the shoulders and neckline. Stitches are bound off using the Italian bind off technique.

We had such a great time together and I was lucky to see lots of happy husbands and partners showing off their new favourite sweater :)

The 2nd sample of my #adorable_gingervest is growing & I absolutely love this colour 🤩

I finetuned some tiny details & incorporated German Short Rows at the shoulders (can you see where? 🤓). I’m pretty happy with the result to be honest! I spent countless hours working on them, finding a way to make them as invisible as possible (which was not easy with a cable pattern 😮‍💨). But I think I did it!

I just need to finish the front, add the folded neck & join the sides a bit with a crochet hook 👌🏻 & then it’s grading & writing (and making way too many charts 😂). I hope to be able to send the pattern to my tech editor at the end of next week!

The Heartwarmer Vest is THE perfect everyday, basic yet elegant vest design, worked top down in stockinette stitch with a split hem and a big turtleneck. The neck, hem, and armhole edgings are worked in 1x1 rib stitch. It’s a super quick knit. This project just flies off your needles (worked on 5 mm needles), which is a good thing. Because you’ll want to make more than 1…just saying! 😉

With every new colour or yarn combo I see, I’m thinking ‘Mmmh, I need one of those too’ :)

The patterns comes in 9 sizes and has a positive ease of 9-10 cm.

I’m curious, what’s your favourite ‘unpopular knitting opinion’? 🤭

We all know many of them of course, like: ‘I never make a swatch’, ‘sleeve island is the worst’, ‘a tubular bind off or cast on is not worth the effort’, …. And also: ‘I don’t do gift knitting’ or ‘why would you ever knit a bra’ & so on! But let’s have some fun & share yours in the comments! We are not pointing fingers here! We all do whatever makes us happy! ♥️

I’ll share one of mine:
I hate frogging… So if something is not working out as planned, I’m very likely to put that project in ‘my little corner of shame’ and ignore it for (in some cases) a long time until I find the energy to frog (or not 🤣). Oooops! I need to work on something else for a bit, until I’m ready to tackle the frogging issue 😇

I’m nowhere near where I should be with my 2nd sample. I’ve been sick this week, so I decided to take it slow. Not a lot of knitting time, but a lot of resting time.

That’s also the reality of a 1 woman business. If that 1 woman is unable to work, nobody’s working 🤓 I had also planned to make another YouTube podcast, but I don’t think I would’ve done you a favour with that. Let’s just say that it wouldn’t have been a joy to watch & listen to 🤣 I hope to make it in the coming week though ☺️

I’ve said it soooo many times already, but this year I will make it happen. I will give this pattern the update it deserves (meaning add more sizes to it, rewrite it completely so that it matches my current writing style and just bring it up to my current designing standards).

I still love this design so much! So I just need to do this.

Little side note: I have so much work at the moment that I’m procrastinating like a pro, not doing what I NEED to do, but working on other things that make me happy 😂 Thinking about making time for this update is probably a direct result of this procrastinating 🤓 Am I the only one who works like this? 😂

So, while I should be working full time on the pattern of my Ginger Vest, I’m working on a completely unplanned new design for a shawl (and this is not the right time as spring is approaching). But, I need to give my brain some time off to then go 100% in full focus mode 😇 Also, I’m still not feeling great, so I’m taking it easy this week.

• New Beginnings •

I’m having some fun with knit & purl stitches :)

I was feeling so frustrated last week, when I was working on the Ginger Vest & things weren’t going as planned 😵‍💫 As a result, my brain tends to hyper-focus on something completely different & very much unplanned (as in ‘I don’t really have time for this unplanned’ 🤣).

So, in this case, my yarn brain pushed me into textures by working knit & purl stitches. I wanted something fun but also something easy :) And this is what came out. And I like it. And I decided to work on it a bit longer, as I’m not feeling 100%. I will add a couple of different textures & see where this goes!

This piece will become a shawl, but it might also become more in the future 😇

My first sample is finished! And I’m superhappy with the final outcome (after a couple of frustrating days 😅😂).

I worked on the grading today, but ooooh my! This one is killing me again 😂 I’ll get it done, just not this week 😇 I will start working on the 2nd sample on Monday (finetuned some details here & there and I will add some GSR, or at least, I will try & see if it works 😂), and will make tutorials simultaneously. Also, I will try to add modification options for the side details (fixed as shown in this sample, with I-cord ties or with a fixed strap) and might add an option without decreases in the body.

Throwback to my favourite electric blue mohair Grace 💙🤩

This is by far my favourite blue colour I think, it’s so vibrant! This sample was worked with 2 strands of mohair held together, which results in the most airy, soft, light & fluffy fabric ever! I’ve worn this sweater soooo much already!

Little update on the vest this evening 🥰

I think I found it! After trying different ties & straps and not ‘feeling it’, I felt sooooo frustrated. This is part of the designing process: sometimes you win and sometimes you feel very frustrated 😂

But…I had an idea last night in bed when I was thinking about it some more. Immediately tried it this morning & I think it works perfectly 🤗 I did some freewheeling, used a crochet hook, but I think it looks so neat I think! And this way, everyone can decide for themselves how far they want to join the sides.

I will work on some details tomorrow, start working on my 2nd sample & will then do the grading & pattern writing! 🤞🏻♥️

Had a pretty frustrating day 😅

I hoped that my first attempt would be bang on… Well, it’s not 🤣 It’s already pretty good, but the position of the ties is not right. And then I tried a little ‘fixed’ strap, but that’s not working haha. I’m not feeling all the feelings yet 😁

It’s quite obvious that I just need to lower the position of the ties to solve the biggest issue. But that means changing the position of the decreases & increases at the back & front, meaning as much as starting over entirely 🤣 Good thing my yarn for the 2nd sample arrived today.

So, I’ll start on that first thing tomorrow!

And maybe I should try some i-cord ties for this sample, as they won’t be in the way too much.

I need a mindless knit on my needles for tonight…which I don’t have at the moment 😭 But I might have a new idea :)

Throwback to last August 🥹♥️

My eldest daughter Renée turned 10y yesterday 😭😭😭 When? Did? This? Happen?!? I still can’t believe it. Time flies when you’re having fun ♥️

So, we officially entered a new phase now…the ‘life with a teenage girl’ phase. And I’m so not ready for this 🤣

Anyways… I’m so proud of our beautiful little girl (who’s not so little anymore). Nothing makes me happier than seeing her grow up. She’s such a smart, funny, creative, and beautiful soul. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her ♥️

Are there other moms here who always feel all the feelings when your kiddos celebrate their birthdays? 🥹😅🥰 It gets me every single time 😂

Love this little detail at the shoulder (and all the other little details to be honest 😇). So happy with this design!

I always say ‘it’s all in the details’.

So when every little detail turns out exactly how you want it to, you get that ‘jackpot feeling’. I loved this about my previous job as an interior architect and I absolutely love the fact that I can still apply this in my job as a knitwear designer.
