The Grace Sweater is a simple, classic raglan sweater with balloon sleeves and purl edge details. The sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round, from top to bottom. The neck, hem and cuffs are worked in a 1x1 rib stitch. The rest of the sweater is worked in stockinette stitch. German Short Rows are used to shape the shoulders and neckline. Stitches are bound off using the Italian bind off technique. To ensure that the neckline doesn’t stretch over time, you can sew in a thin elastic thread along the edge.

The idea behind this design is to have a ‘basic’ sweater for which you can use many different types of yarn, always with the same gauge of course.

Knit the sweater in 1 colour, or add stripes to the mix, or make a colour block version... The possibilities are endless :)

The Grace sweater is available for both kids and adults.

You know I like to make twinning designs!

I’ve made 3 samples using a different type of yarn, which results in a completely different sweater:

Sample 1 (Size 12y): Merry Merino 140 from Kremke Soul Wool in the colour 22 Lilac

Sample 2 (Size 10y): Big Bio Balance from BC Garn in the colours 01 (natur), 20 (rosa), 07 (rost) and 22 (Flieder). I’m adding this version too to give you an example of the striped version. This sweater grew a bit too much after blocking though, so the gauge didn’t match anymore (that’s why it’s not mentioned in the suggested yarn).

Sample 3 (Size 10y): Mokosh from Hey Mama Wolf in the colours 01 (Wollweiss), 06 (Artemisia Türkis) and 10 (Weissdorn rosa). For reference: I ordered 2 skeins of the MC and1 skein of each CC: I used 125 g of the MC, and 50 g of each CC).

The Grace Sweater is an oversized sweater with a positive ease of approx. 13 - 14.5 cm [5 - 5.75 inches] compared to the body bust circumference. The sizes 2y (4y) 6y (8y) 10y (12y) correspond to a bust circumference (of the body) of approx. 53 (58,5) 63,5 (67) 71 (76) cm [20.75 (23) 25 (26.5) 28 (30) inches] respectively. Keep in mind that the final measurements of the sweater already take these extra 13 - 14.5 cm [5 - 5.75 inches] into account. Ease is a personal preference. Take the necessary measurements to determine the right size for you before you start knitting.
